Principal’s Message

It has been another busy term at TC for our students. Our calendar shows 170 events this term made up of camps, excursions, incursions, camps, music, formals, social programs, and wellbeing activities. This is evidence of the opportunities to embrace a rich and varied educational experience at TC every term.

I have taken delight this term in seeing students embrace opportunities in so many ways. Seeing students use our amazing physical environment to link their learning to the real world in the permaculture garden, testing the water in the pond for science learning, and taking on projects in the grounds making a useable recreational space for other students in our Tradie Training class.

Walking around the school I am welcomed into classrooms to see what is being taught and learnt with engagement and enthusiasm. What I also see is the calm and orderly learning environment based on the respectful relationships between staff and students. These are the ingredients for a continued focus on teaching and learning at TC. Every student can learn and grow at TC by embracing every opportunity we present in and out of the classroom.

Recently TC hosted all the secondary principals from the Inner East area of Melbourne for a network meeting. There was the opportunity to display the work the school has been doing in curriculum development, and how we have managed to meet the requirements of the Victorian Curriculum and maintain flexibility and student agency in the planning of curriculum programs. We followed this with a tour of the school to show how we take learning from the documentation to implementation in our learning spaces around the school. It was another opportunity to show how we can be a mainstream state school but hold on to what makes us unique.

Thinking toward 2027, planning is already underway with the enrolment of our Entry students for next year. The school leadership team is ready to go, with planning days scheduled in Term 4 to have everything ready for an exciting 2027. Term 4 is also the time we celebrate with the Grads as they finish their time at TC and prepare for their final exams and the next part of their lives. I am looking forward to celebrating with the students and their families.

I wish everyone a safe, restful, and enjoyable term break.

Student achievements

Basketball State Champions

It was a big day for TC basketball this week, with both our Senior Boys and Senior Girls teams taking out the SSV State Championship.

Both teams faced Berwick Secondary College in their finals and came away with the win, securing State Championship titles in their respective competitions.

The results reflect the hard work, commitment and dedication the students have put into their basketball throughout the season, both on and off the court. It was a great reward for the teams and everyone who has supported them along the way.

TC Students awarded $1,000 through Impact Boss

This term, students at TC took part in Impact Boss, a Young Change Agents program that gives young people the opportunity to identify real-world problems and develop their own social enterprise solutions. Through design thinking, business modelling, prototyping and pitching, students worked in teams to turn their ideas into potential projects. From this event two groups were selected to progress to the State final for their ideas:

Screenfreen Parenting: Charlotte V, Em M, India Y, Michael C, Tabi C, Toby J
Just Go Up: Owen C, Beau M, Gas M, Issa N

This culminated in a virtual showcase event on 8 September, where students presented their projects and ideas in a 2-minute pitch to a panel of expert judges. We’re excited to share that TC team Just Go Up was one of three teams selected to receive $1,000 in seed funding to help bring their project to life. The panel, made up of representatives from the Victorian Government, was impressed by the team’s vision and hard work.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise and support the program at TC, and well done to all the students involved. We look forward to seeing where Just Go Up goes next!
