‘Unleash’ Rocks Templestowe College

Last Friday, TC’s Performing Arts Centre (PAC) Music Room was transformed into a vibrant hub of energy and music 🎶as students gathered for Unleash, the highly anticipated music celebration. The event, held from 5:30pm to 9:00pm, was organised by our dedicated Stage & Beyond students as part of Youthfest. It brought together not only TC students but also members of the wider community eager to support their peers and enjoy an unforgettable evening of live performances, original songs, snacks and genuine camaraderie.

The night began with excited chatter as friends met up with others, tickets in hand, as they lined up outside the PAC awaiting entry. As the doors to the venue opened, the distant sound of instruments tuning and the sizzling of sausages filled the air, building an unspoken anticipation for what was about to unfold. The atmosphere was electric⚡, literally, with colourful lights bouncing off the newly soundproofed music room walls, and guitars being plugged into amps🎸.

More than a concert or performance, Unleash was a showcase of student talent and teamwork🤝, with a wide range of bands made up of students of all ages, truly a testament to TC’s creative spirit. Bands took the stage with a fluttering sort of excitement, and when they played their set, the room was filled with a mix of both covers and original songs🎤.

When asked what the best part of the night was, Isla Treweek, one of the music captains, expressed her fondness for the event: “I loved everyone’s contribution to the night. We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help.” 🌟

Unleash wasn’t just entertainment; it was also about community. Friends bonded over their love of music, and everyone had the chance to listen to live performances by talented teens before the holidays. For an under-18s gig, Unleash was still exceptionally energetic, with a welcoming and safe atmosphere and plenty of spirit.

“It was so great to see our friends perform and showcase their skills,” says Mali Jones, one of the many enthusiastic attendees. Amy Rubin, a fellow TC student, added, “I’m really proud of how far our school has come and how brilliant our music program is.”

One of my personal favourite performances came from student band ‘Journey to Spilt Milk’, who delivered a phenomenal performance of "Interstate Love Song" by Stone Temple Pilots and "Silver Lining" by Laufey, showcasing the unique talent and passion found within TC’s music scene.

Unleash showed what’s possible when students lead with passion, creativity and teamwork. Huge thanks go out to the hardworking behind-the-scenes organisers, the talented performers and supportive staff. Here’s to more student-led events like this at TC!

Song Club

This term Song Club🎵, which is an inclusive music-making club that meets every Tuesday lunchtime in the music room, has been working on an original song called ‘Rain’.

The group comprising of singers, guitarists, strings, keyboards, drummers, and bass players worked together in a series of workshops to compose the musical elements, melody, and lyrics ✍️to this emotive and dynamic song.

As the group refined and rehearsed the song, it was clear that we needed to record this exciting creation. Fortunately our music technology students were there to help us bring our vision to life by setting up the mics, making sure all the levels were right, and coaching us through the recording session.

Everyone worked hard to nail their part👏. We even made sure the lighting was just right for the vibe of the track.

The music tech students will now mix the recording in their lessons and we look forward to sharing the final mix with the TC community soon!

Thanks to all the Song Club members and the music team for working together on this project!

Legally Blonde

At the start of Term 3 TC was buzzing with anticipation for this year’s musical Legally Blonde Jnr! 💕Over four spectacular nights, our talented performing arts students, teachers, and tech crew brought the high-spirited story to life.

From the moment the curtain opened, the cast’s enthusiasm was palpable🎭. Every number was delivered with charm, drawing laughter, cheers, and plenty of toe-tapping from the audience. Bright costumes, clever props and strong performances immersed us all in Elle’s world.

Jasmine Fuga, TC Grad and performing arts enthusiast, shone as Elle Woods. “I have absolutely loved being involved in TC’s 2025 production of Legally Blonde Jnr,” she said. “The character of Elle Woods has always been really special to me and a dream role of mine for a long time, so it was amazing to get the privilege to play her this year in my last school musical.”

As this was Jasmine’s final TC performance, it was a bittersweet moment. “Working alongside the incredible cast and staff was so much fun and definitely something I am going to miss next year, but I am looking forward to what TC has in store. I can’t wait to be in the audience cheering everyone on!”

With such talent and dedication on display, it’s clear TC’s performing arts program will continue to deliver unforgettable experiences. What musical will TC perform next? Stay tuned...

VCE muso performances

🎼In Week 8 our VCE 3/4 Musos present part of their repertoire programs in preparation for their upcoming performance exams. A supportive audience of family, friends, and staff were treated to a range of solo and group performances in a wide range of genres including jazz-funk, soul, metal, musical theatre, pop, latin, and ragtime.

The Musos needed to take full charge of their equipment and sound system to ensure that they could balance their levels and show professionalism at all times throughout their set. The passion and commitment from the performers on both nights was inspiring to see. Well done Musos and chookers for your upcoming exams! Thanks to everyone who came along and to TC Music staff for supporting.
